I'm not a bag-lady nor a fa-shoe-nista. The highs I get when I get some sort of branded stuff pale in comparison whenever I have a tech gadget I really need and/or want. When I saw this little baby I just had to blog about it. MAJOR MAJOR GEEK CRUSH!!!

New Year New Vision

It's been a long while since I updated this blog because of so many commitments last year. Anyway, happy new year to all. It's a time to get rid of the old bad practices and bring in the new. It's like seeing things with a new pair of glasses and curing our myopic vision. Let me tell you a little story.

I used to wear glasses, 11 years ago more or less. I was nearsighted growing up and I couldn't really excel in whatever I wanted to do because I was hampered by my inability to see well. I dreaded sports because I was scared that I would get hit by a ball or something and break my glasses. Contact lenses were troublesome too because of the constant cleaning and protein buildup in the lenses even if you clean it as best as you could. There was no sign of hope for nearsighted people like me until I heard of laser surgery in the late 1990's. I thought this was finally the answer to my prayer and so I saved up enough money to afford the surgery. Compared to today the cost of laser eye surgery costs much less. I asked my doctor brother for advice but he was a bit hesitant because the technology was still fairly new. He asked me to wait 5 years to see how it would fare. But I was determined to live without glasses because I wanted to see the stars and everything around me without the thick weight of eyeglasses on my nose. And so I had my surgery done.

The surgery itself was more or less painless but it was the healing time after that was soooooooo painful. I had to wear sunglasses for days and I had a slew of medications and drops for my eyes. Today, you can have Lasik probably with better post-operation experiences. I've read that Lasik vision recovery can be as little as a few hours and you can see well in about a day or two. They say Lasik normally has no pain and best of all, you can reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. If you are in the US you can probably check out the Stahl Eye Center and have your eyes checked if you qualify for Lasik surgery. Their doctors are graduates from top universities such as UCLA, John Hopkins and Yale.

After that operation, I'd have to say that I've been able to do things I would never have done if I had remained myopic. I think it's the same in real life. Without vision, people perish. We need to have vision or we will simply exist. This new year, I'm looking forward to doing so many new things and attempt to do what I dare not do. It will be exciting and it will be full.

Apo para ipakita sa aming mga tsikiting ang pangalawang pinakamalaking planta ng alternatibong enerhiyang geothermal sa buong mundo subalit nasa kalahati pa lang kami ng aming biyahe ay di na nakayanan ng aming sasakyan ang biyahe at unti-unti na syang naghingalo at nawalan ng "power" kaya kami ay napilitang huminto sa tabing daan. Kami pala ay napadpad na sa boundary ng Kidapawan, Cotabato at sa aming pagkagulat, mayroon palang magandang pahingahan na pang-turista dito kaya ang aming pagka-unsyami at panghihinayang ay medyo parang nabuhusan na ng malamig na tubig.

Dito ko natagpuan ang kakaibang puno na ito na aking pinagdiskitahan. Labis akong naaliw kasi dahil ang hugis at pagbagsak ng mga dahon nya ay tila hugis puso kaya siya ay talagang aking piniktyuran. Ako ay napangiti sa aking sarili at tunay na namangha - may 'sense of humor' din pala ang Dakilang Maylikha. Kahit saan, kahit kailan sa kahit anong paraan puede syang magsalita, magparamdam na lab naman nya kami - kunsuelo de amor kahit kami ay nasiraan ng sasakyan. :)

LO Share - Project Digiscrap 365

So I’m still on a blogging blitz and I’m updating the layouts I’ve done for this year. Now, I’m not on a one layout a day thing. What I’m hoping for is to finish 365 layouts for this year (personal) not including SFH stuff I do. It looks like I’m not going to be posting them in sequence because some of the layouts I’ve done can’t be posted until a later date so I’ll be posting them according to my own file numbering (just in case you get confused about my counting skills LOL).

Pasinaya 2009 sa CCP

I’m in a blogging mood this morning so I think I’ll update my blog a bit and then some. I’ve been out the past few days coz my in-laws were here for a visit and I had a few layout jobs to finish for TDS (The Daily Scrapper) and some friends as well. I was also invited by a friend to photoshoot for her at the CCP’s Pasinaya last Sunday. We met at Festival Mall Alabang right after our Sunday Service here in Sta. Rosa and me and my family rushed to Alabang to meet her at Starbucks Festi. Thank God for convenient coffee franchises! It makes meet ups so much easier. We arrived at the CCP early for rehearsals and blocking. Fortunately, I had the chance to practice my shots and test my camera’s settings before my friend’s ballet company came on. I’m not done with all the editing, but I am quite happy with the shots I took this time. The photography class I took last year has helped me a lot and I’m slowly taking ownership of my little Oly. :)

Mahilig ka ba sa Twilight?

Kung ikaw ay isa sa mga libo-libong(? pero di ako kasali dun) tao na nakabasa ng aklat na Twilight o dili kaya ay nakapanood ng pelikulang ito baka sakaling makahiligan mo ang lahok ko sa linggong ito. Ito ang mga paniking kulay tsokolate na matatagpuan sa kuweba sa Samal Island. Talaga namang kikiligin ka at hihimatayin sa kakaibang amoy nila - makapigil hininga talaga! Kailangan mong pigilang huminga kasi baka bumaliktad ang iyong sikmura sa sangsang ng amoy nila. Pero sa tutoo lang, ka-kyut naman sila sa malapitan, di ba? Baka isa sa kanila yung bida sa Twilight, no? Papa-kiss ka ba? Sali na kayo!

Ang makulay na pagbabalik ko sa LP

Matagal tagal na ding panahon mula nang ako’y huling lumahok sa lingguhang pagbabahagi ng mga larawan sa LP. May iba-iba kasing panahon at kulay ang buhay ng tao. Nag-iiba ang mga nakagawian at may mga pagbabagong hindi maiiwasan. Bagamat sa aking pakiramdam ako ay naging prodigal pansamantala, may mga araw na iniisip ko kung kailan ako magkakapanahon na makalahok na muli dahil ito ay naging bahagi na ng aking buhay. Kaya mga kapatid kong ka-LP pipilitin kong makabawi sa mga “homework” ngayong taong ito. Pasensya na lamang po mga klasmeyt pero kahit naman po ako’y absent di ko naman po inalis ang aking LP id dito sa aking tahanan sa internet. Kung inyo pong mamarapatin, narito po ang aking mga lahok - para sa linggong ito at para na din sa nakaraan. Ito ay ilan sa mga eksena sa makulay kong daigdig.Narito ang aking mga lahok para sa mga nakaraang linggo:

LP-Pula

Ito marahil ang pinakasikat na pula sa buong mundo. Kahit saan, kahit kailan kasama sa mga pagsasalo, saksi sa mga kabanata ng ating buhay, malungkot man o masaya. Nakakadagdag buhay daw ito, ika nga. Pero sa aking sariling pagkakaalam, ito ay tunay na nakakadagdag balakang. (kuha sa Sampaguita Gardens sa Aklan kung saan makikita ang Precious Moments na mga manika)

LP-Asul

Ang kulay asul karaniwan ay sumisimbolo ng kapayapaan, kahinahunan at katahimikan. Subalit pag ito ay nahaluan ng kulay itim ito ay nagiging madilim at maaring magpahiwatig ng kalungkutan o nagbabadyang bagyo. (kuha sa Boracay noong nakaraang Oktubre 2008)

Ang paglubog ng araw ay sumisimbolo ng pagtatapos o pagwawakas, pamamaalam at pagpapahinga mula sa isang araw ng gawain. Minsan malungkot isipin ang pagtatapos subalit mayroon din syang angking kakaibang kagandahan na nagbibigay kapayapaan sa kalooban… ang unti-unting paglaho ng araw ay nagbibigay daan para ang liwanag naman ng buwan ang syang maging tanglaw sa dilim. Kung hindi lulubog ang araw, hindi mo makikita ang buwan at ang mga bituin, di ba?(kuha sa Boracay noong Oktubre 2008)

A Photography Toot!

Last year, I was invited to join a free Photography course sponsored by Isuzu (IADI). It was held at the Isuzu Alabang Showroom along Zapote and the course was taught by photographer Toni Cuesta. It was my first formal lesson in photography and I really appreciate what I learned because I now can shoot more intelligently and be more technically correct instead of just winging it. I didn’t know a lot about technique before the class and although I’ve read and am still reading about photography, there are some things that the books don’t teach you. More caught than taught, I would say.

One of our first few assignments was about aperture settings. We were supposed to submit our work and upload it to flickr and teacher Toni C. would check it online. I didn’t have much time to go hunting for a shot so I just looked around our house for something interesting to take and I ended up taking a pic of the tree outside our house. Flowering trees are not my specialty but this one is one of the original trees that we had planted when we first moved in. I love the purple flowers that cascade down the branches of this tree. Now I’m not much of a green thumb and I’ve killed a lot of rose bushes already but at least this one survived. Thanks to our once a month gardener. LOL

You can see more of my homework in my flickr account. I’m not an expert peeps so be kind. Anyway, the culminating activity of the course was a contest. We were supposed to submit at least 3 photos that fit the theme - Me and My Isuzu and these entries would be displayed in the Isuzu showrooms in Alabang, Pasig and Cavite so that people could vote for their favorites. I don’t particularly like popularity contests because I don’t think I can ever win one anyway. Last December, I think right before my birthday, this was while we were in Davao, I received a phone call from Isuzu telling me my entry had won 2nd place. I couldn’t believe it! There were more experienced and technically better photographers in the class and for my entry to win…it just blew me away. It wasn’t exactly my first time to win in a photo contest ( I also had a winning entry in the first Hershey’s Happiness Contest a few years ago) but it still is a wonderful feeling. I know I still have so much to learn in photography and I know that I’m not in the league of the pros yet but God has a way of assuring me of His grace, His love and His approval of me no matter how little I think of myself. I felt it was His and my dad’s birthday present to me. I just wish I could hug them both…

Buying Glasses Online

During one of her Kumon classes, the teacher noticed DD squinting. I noticed that she does it while doing other things. At times she asks us to go to the eye doctor. Considering that she might need glasses , I shop around and encounter Zenni Optical $ 8 Rx Eyeglasses. This site got me really interested as Glasses in the Philippines would be 5x the cost. I find a frame in their catalogs DD would like, if she was prescribed correctives. This one was priced at $12.95

I did more research and found that Zenni Optical was on FOX news! The segment did show that, if you have simple requirements and you know what you need, purchasing from them would be OK. My concern though was that for younger children the risk of not getting the right glasses would be high.

The Incredible Stylish New Frames From Zenni also include elegant rectangular full rims that my DH wants me to wear.

It looks like, purchasing glasses is now in the 21st century.

Ito ang buod ng aking lahok sa linggong ito kuha sa isang palabas na ballet sa Tangahalang Nicanor Abelardo noong nakaraang linggo. Ito ay patungkol kay Esther, isang Hudyong naging Reyna ng Persia, at ng kanyang mga kalahi na dahil sa isang sakim na tagapamahala ng hari ay nakalulungkot na nasentensyahang ipapatay ng Haring Xerxes noong mga panahon na iyon. Mababasa ang buong istorya ng buhay nila sa aklat na Ester sa Lumang Tipan ng Bibliya.

I recently visited the Tinkering Ink blog and they had this invitation to send layouts about being sick, being in the hospital or having frozen treats. I happened to have one that I did a while back about my little girl. I did it so that I wouldn't forget that moment and all I used was a freebie QP from Cottage Arts that had been sitting in my hard drive forever. I didn't spend hours working on it but it is one of my favorites because of the memory behind it.

I sent it out mainly to encourage little Preston who was going to have his tonsils and adenoids taken out. I know that as a parent it is so difficult to see your child have to go through something like that and how important it is to reassure your child that everything will be alright. I am so happy that Preston picked my LO not because of the prizes (that's a bonus :D) but I hope he was encouraged by the smile on my kids faces and that maybe it made him a little braver. LP#3 - Apat na kanto

Kanto sa loob ng kanto

Sa mga napaisip sa aking lahok na tatsulok nung nakaraan, basta mahilig ka lang kay Disney ay di ka mahihirapan. Siliping maiigi at inyo ring makikita, tatsulok na likha ng nagtatagong daga. :) .

Sa linggo ring ito, huwag din magtaka. Sa biglang sulyap, tatlong kanto ang akala, subalit pag binilang, ay naku! isa, dalawa, tatlo, apat din pala. TWN (tawa nang malakas, ayon kay Kaje ;D )

(For those who were wondering about my entry last week, if you like watching Disney it would have been a cinch... look closely at it again and I know you'll surely see, a triangle hiding in a Hidden Mickey . :)

For this week's entry, I also hope that you won't wonder. At first glance, it might appear as three, but when you start counting...Voila! one, two, three, four is what you see. LOL (laugh out loud, acc to Kaje ;D )

Bilog Ang Pinagmulan, Tatsulok ang sinundan

Ang aking akda ay bunga ng labis na pagtataka sa maliit na kamera at bandila na aking napupuna sa mga blogs na kalimitan kong dinadalaw. Sa tindi ng aking pagtataka, tinugunan ko ang imbitasyon na nakalagay sa litratong may kamera na nagsasabing "join ka na". Labis akong naaliw sa pagbabasa ng mga komento ng mga kasali sapagkat matagal na akong di nakakapagbasa at nakapagsasalita ng tuwirang Pilipino. Sa katunayan, medyo nahirapan akong intindihin ang paraan ng pagsali kasi hindi ako sigurado kung tama ang pagkakaintindi ko sa labis na kalaliman ng mga salitang ginamit. Kaya kung mali ang aking ginagawa mga kapatid, pakisabi lang po sa akin para maiwasto ko ang aking pagkakamali dahil nais ko talagang sumali. Salamat, mahaba na ito... ubos na ang baon ko. :)

(My post is a result of my curiosity about that little camera with a Philippine flag that I often see in the blogs I visit. Because of this I gave in to the invitation to join found at the bottom of the picture. I found it so amusing to read the comments that were written in Pilipino because I haven't read or spoken straight Pilipino in a long while. In fact, I had a hard time trying to understand the instructions on how to join and I don't know if what I am doing is right because the words they used were too deep for me to understand. So if what I'm doing is wrong, feel free to correct me because I really want to join. That's all the Pilipino I have for now... I need a refill. :) lol)

Woohoo! I did it again! I paper scrapped :) Of course it's not 12x12 and it's really a simple sketch but at least it's one less pic in my pile and that's good enough for me. Materials are as usual my old K&Co papers with a few new elements like the rubons from craft express and the little pink clip from all about scrapbooking. Everything else is part of my old stash.

... A LITTLE FREEBIE! ... my very first one too. I made this paper and used it for the LO above and it's just been sitting in my HD so I decided to give it away as an Easter present for everyone and also as a thank you to those who've been generously giving away freebies to the digiscrapping community. It's SFO/SFH friendly too.

I paper scrapped!!! Well, these are photos from my pre-digicam days and my stash which is really old (the good news, the quality is still good so i guess they are what they claimed to be years back) except for a few new elements here and there but basically these are some of my "vintage-y" supplies before the dawn of prima and basic grey days so be kind :).
